He’s always passionately talking about wide-ranging issues, such as pollution, poverty, corruption or endangered species; but he rarely washes his dishes, never planted a tree and has no meaningful aspirations in respect of his career or love life.

It’s dangerous to discuss individual responsibility because you can be held ‘liable’ for that on the spot! You can’t advise someone to go running every morning when you happen to be a sedentary fellow. Therefore, to avoid that, simply ramble about climate change, koalas or gender inequality.

The more we think and talk about the issues which we can’t control, the more we neglect the ones which are in our control. We thus make ourselves feel responsible, whilst being totally irrresponsible.
